Covid-19 Safety

In line with the government announcement all of New Zealand moved into the new Covid-19 Protection Framework (traffic light system) on Friday 3 December.

As Town Hall Cinemas is an event facility under this framework, vaccination certificates will be required at Town Hall Cinemas.

This means all customers over 12 years old and 3 months will need to show their My Vaccine Pass to cinema staff for verification from December 3 onwards.

Please present your My Vaccine Pass to our staff when you arrive.

From December 3 onwards we will operate under the traffic light system.
It is expected that we will start under the Orange Light rules. Read on...

What the traffic light system means for us

🟢🟠
Greenlight & Orange Light
No more social distancing or spaced seating.
However, you are required to show your My Vaccine Pass and face coverings are still required in the foyer but not mandatory in the cinemas.

Red Light
Social distancing is enforced with spaced seating.
You will be required to show your My Vaccine Pass and wear face coverings in the foyer but not in the cinemas.

How does this work for children who don’t have a wallet or a smartphone?
More than one certificate can be saved on a parent's phone. Parents can hold the certificates of their family members who are 12 years and above on their behalf.

What happens if you don't have a My Vaccine Pass?
You will not be permitted into any of our cinemas. However, you can still come into our foyer and purchase anything over the counter excluding movie tickets as long as you are wearing a mask and practice social distancing. Under the current guidelines, you will not be allowed to sit in the foyer area and must leave as soon as you have the item you purchased.  We understand this is unfortunate but these are the government's guidelines which we must legally follow.

How to get your vaccine passport
There are 3 ways to get your My Vaccine Pass — online through My Covid Record, over the phone, and in-person at a pharmacy.

As an industry leader, we are taking aggressive measures to keep our theatres clean and to discourage those with health concerns from attending.

We appreciate you taking the time to follow this process so we can welcome you into the cinemas once the new framework is in place. Our team will be working hard to make things as smooth as possible for all our customers and we thank you for your support and understanding during this transition.

The health and safety of our valued customers and dedicated team is always our highest priority. While we constantly uphold the highest of health and safety standards and we have been closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. As a result of recent events, we have taken action in line with advice from both the World Health Organization (WHO) and our own Ministry of Health - Manatū Hauora.

We will continue to review our approach as the situation evolves. At present, we are implementing the following safety measures:

Enhancing Theatre Cleaning
All surfaces in the cinema including the seats, tables, and handrail are thoroughly cleaned with hospital-grade sanitiser between each session, including any seats or surfaces that weren’t in use. Although this level of cleanliness has always been mandated in our theatres, we have asked staff to pay extra attention to wiping each surface.

Providing Free Hand Sanitiser Providing Free Hand Sanitiser
Hand sanitiser is readily available in the foyer for all cinema patrons to use. We highly recommend taking advantage of the safety of yourself and those around you. Although hand sanitiser has become a valuable commodity and is sold out nationwide, we are pleased to be able to provide it to our patrons free of charge.Hand sanitiser is readily available in the foyer for all cinema patrons to use. Strengthening Staff Hygiene Measures
We have implemented a strict and rigorous sanitising protocol for all our staff which includes sanitising their hands regularly and wearing gloves while serving food and beverages. Should a team member undertake a different activity while prepping the food, the gloves are changed immediately, and safely disposed of. If any of our team are unwell, we have asked that they stay at home. If they have travelled, have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in contact with anyone who does, we have asked them to seek medical advice and self-isolate for the recommended period.

Protective Mask Wearing
In line with the government's guidelines, all of our staff will be wearing protective masks.
It is also required that all customers wear masks when entering and leaving the premises and while in our foyer area.
While it is not mandatory to wear a mask while watching a film in our cinema, we do encourage it at the patron's discretion.
